The Walking Dead set new audience record and other TV news
Smash hit TV series The Walking Dead has just set a new audience record in the US as the fourth series returned on Sunday, 14 October. The show saw a peak audience of 16.1 million viewers tune in which absolutely smashed their previous best effort of 12.4 million viewers for the final episode of the last series. British actor Andrew Lincoln plays the lead role in the show as a sheriff trying to survive a zombie apocalypse.
Elsewhere, Ben Wheatley has been confirmed as the director of the first two new episodes of Doctor Who. Wheatley is known for directing cult movies Kill List and Sightseers and will be directing Peter Capaldi in his first two outings as the new Doctor. The BBC has also commissioned a couple of extra programmes to celebrate the show's 50th birthday, including a show with Professor Brian Cox examining the science behind the show; and a BBC Radio 2 documentary.
In other news, legendary actor Sir Anthony Hopkins recently confirmed that he wrote a fan letter (email) to Bryan Cranston, the star of recently completed show Breaking Bad. In the e-mail, the Oscar-winning actor said that Cranston's performance as Walter White was “the best acting I have seen — ever”. He also took time to compliment the rest of the show's cast, as well as the directors, producers and basically everybody else involved with the show. High praise indeed.
