Emmys 2013 - The Big Winners and Losers
The biggest award ceremony in television recently took place in Los Angeles and the results produced a few surprises, as well as seeing some of the big-name shows picking up plenty of awards.
First looking at the awards for comedy at the 2013 Emmys, Modern Family only picked up one award but it was the biggest one of all - Outstanding Comedy Series. The show beat other long-time favourites such as The Big Bang Theory and 30 Rock, as well as newcomer Veep to take the award.
Despite having many other individual nominations for comedy performances, Modern Family did not win any of them, with Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series going to Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series being awarded to Julia Louis-Dreyfus for her work in Veep.
Looking at the more dramatic side of things, despite an incredibly strong line-up featuring Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men, the award for Outstanding Drama Series was given to Breaking Bad which is now in its eighth and final series and rapidly heading towards its climax.
One of the big surprises of the night was Jeff Daniels winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Newsroom; beating the likes of Bryan Cranston and Jon Hamm to the award. Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series went to Claire Danes of Homeland, beating favourite Elizabeth Moss to the prize.
