Microsoft's Xbox One games will cost £40
When Microsoft announced the release of its latest Xbox games console, Xbox One, would hit the shelves in November, the first question that was asked was ‘how much will it cost?’. The answer to that question was £425 / €499 / $499, which was not received with much enthusiasm given that the PS4 will retail at the significantly lower £349 / €399 / $399.
And so the next question became ‘how much will the games cost?’ The answer to this question was slightly more favourably received as the cost will be approximately £40 / €60 / $60 which is essentially in keeping with the current cost of games. However, some analysts have noted that the reason why the price of games has not risen significantly is because Microsoft will be looking to garner additional income from other methods such as charging players to play pre-owned games.
This is all part of the huge rivalry between Microsoft and Sony who are each trying to dominate the games console market with their upcoming efforts. It remains to be seen which console will do better in the run-up to Christmas 2013, although Sony seem to have edged ahead what with the lower price for the console.
The announced price of Xbox One games also matches the expected price of PS4 games, although notably, Shuhei Yoshida, head of worldwide game development for Sony, has refused to confirm exactly what prices will be, or even whether or not they would rise and future.
