Elodie Young to Play Elektra in Daredevil Season 2

Move over Jennifer Garner, there's a new Elektra in town. Marvel announced last week that up-and-coming French actress Elodie Young has been chosen to play the martial arts femme fatale in season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil.

Marvel launched its first program Daredevil on the streaming video service earlier this year, which received almost universal critical acclaim. The story centers around Charlie Cox -- a lawyer by day and vigilante crime-fighting superhero by night. Cox was exposed to a mysterious radioactive substance as a child, causing him to go blind. In the process, however, he developed new skills that allow him to detect subtle changes in his surroundings. Daredevil is an amazing show, whether you're a fan of the original comics or not, and I highly recommend checking it out.

So, how will Elektra play into season 2 of Daredevil? Details remain largely unknown at this time, but taking a look back at the history of this superhero provide fans of evidence of what's to come. Elektra was created by comic designer Frank Miller in 1981, first appearing in the Daredevil comics #168. At the time, Miller had intended this to be Elektra's only appearance, but due to the overwhelming response among fans, he continued to include her throughout the series, up until her death in issue #181.

Elektra wasn't exactly a "superhero," though. Instead, Miller included her as a villain. Perhaps we'll see her as a villain once again in season 2 of Daredevil, or maybe she'll play both the good and bad roles.

Elodie Young was chosen to play Elektra based on her physical strength and psychological complexity, according to Marvel TV.

After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

If Young looks familiar, that's probably because you've seen her before. Other films that she's starred in include District 13: Ultimatum, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Dreck, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
