Marvel's Jessica Jones Coming To Neflix

So, you've watched all 13 episodes of Marvel's Daredevil show on Netflix, now what? You might be surprised to learn that Daredevil isn't the first show Marvel is planning to release on Netflix. It's actually one of four, with Jessica Jones scheduled for release next.

Who the heck is Jessica Jones and what is she all about? The upcoming Marvel/Netflix show will star Krysten Ritter as a "retired" superhero. The show will take a unique spin on the traditional superhero shows and movies, as Jessica Jones is a superhero turned private investigator. We still don't know much about the story, but it's believed that her stint as a superhero "ended in tragedy," so she's left the business of fighting crime and villains to focus on becoming a private detective. But that doesn't mean Jones will never use her special abilities. On the contrary, I think it's safe to say we'll see Jones back in a superhero costume at some point during the show.

Some of Jones' special abilities include superhuman strength, superhuman durability (not sure what this means), flight, and psionic protection. Marvel offered some insight into how Jones acquired these abilities, saying she was in a car accident tat exposed her to radioactive materials.

"She was on a trip to Disney World with her family when her father, distracted by the backseat quarrel of her and her brother, lost control of their car in an accident with an army truck transporting unidentified experimental material, possibly radioactive, to which Jessica was exposed in the course of the accident," wrote Marvel on their official Jessica Jones story page.

I like the idea of a superhero turned private investigator show. It adds a unique spin on the traditional superhero genre -- something that we haven't seen in other shows. And with Krysten Ritter taking the helm, it should be an excellent show. She's played in dozens of movies and shows. This is her first time, however, gearing up as a superhero. But then again, she won't exactly be a superhero in Jessica Jones, right? I guess we'll have to wait and find out...

Jessica Jones is scheduled to be released this year, although an exact date has not been announced.
