Fantastic Four Reboot: Here's What We Know

The original Fantastic Four (2005) wasn't horrible by any means, but it didn't do the ragtag group of superheros justice either. Receiving a 5.7 out 10 star rating on IMDB pretty much sums it up: Fantastic Four was worth watching at least once, although it didn't really leave you wanting more. With Marvel's track record of producing big-hit movies, Fantastic Four fell short -- something studio executives hope to avoid with the reboot.

Yep, that's right -- in case you didn't get the memo, Marvel and Fox Studios are planning to release a "reboot" version of Fantastic Four. Directed by Josh Trank, Fantastic Four (2015) it will star Miles Teller as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Kate Mara as Susan Storm / Invisible Woman, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm / The Thing, and Toby Kebbell as Victor Domashev / Doom.

Most Marvel fans (including myself) were thrilled to hear that Marvel was taking another shot at the Fantastic Four. After all, it was a phenomenal comic book that ultimately fell short when translated into the big screen.

So, will the reboot's plot follow the same path as the original film? We still don't know much about the storyline of Fantastic Four, but it's safe to assume that it will have an entirely different plot. In an interview with IGN, Kate Mara, who plays as Susan Storm, confirmed that it will be a "very different take" from the original film.

"I don’t know very much about it, which is weird but true. All I know is it’s going to be a very different take on the film than what probably people expect. I think we’re making a very grounded version of the superhero film," said Mara.

In the original Fantastic Four, the four heroes gained their abilities after being exposed to solar radiation during a spaceflight. According to the Wikipedia page for the reboot, they gain their abilities by teleporting to an alternate universe, which they must later learn how to use and harness in an effort to save Earth.

In any case, we're excited to hear that the Fantastic Four is back in action! Let's just hope this film doesn't turn out to the be a flop like the original.

Fantastic Four is scheduled to hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
