Daredevil: The One Reason Why You Should Get Netflix
Still haven't jumped on board the streaming TV bandwagon? Netflix has some pretty awesome original shows (e.g. House of Cards, Orange is The New Black, etc.), but its latest series tops them all.
Last month, the world's most popular streaming TV/movie service launched a 13-episode series in partnership with Marvel TV titled Daredevil -- yes, that's the same Daredevil from which a movie was made several years ago. While the movie bombed, the show however didn't. It has some superb storytelling, suspense, acting, and fight scenes, all of which are used to tell the story of a blind New York City lawyer who serves up some street justice when the city becomes overrun with criminals.
There are a few things you should know about Daredevil, one of which is the time and setting in which it takes place. Although the show never reveals what exactly took place, it mentions a catastrophic event that occurred in New York City. This event is presumed to be the battle between the Avengers and Loki's army, which happened at the end of The Avengers movie. After leaving the city in a state of disarray, the Russian mob has stepped in to fill the void, and Charlie Cox isn't too happy about it.
It's also worth mentioning that Daredevil -- the show, not the movie -- is the first Marvel show to receive a TV-MA rating. Why is this important? Well, some fans have criticized Marvel for only appealing to a younger audience, such as the case with ABC's show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. With its TV-MA rating, however, Daredevil can venture into uncharted territory, revealing a dark and gritty side of superhero crime-fighting.
When asked by reporters how he felt about the series, Charlie Cox, who stars as Matt Murdoch, said he was feeling good. "Currently, I’m feeling quite good, because the last few days people seem to have really responded well to the show and that’s always very, very exciting," said Cox in an interview with Variety magazine. "Up until a couple of days ago, I was very nervous. It’s obviously a huge responsibility, and you discover when you get a role like this, very quickly it’s made clear to you how important these characters are to so many people, how influential they are and how many people have grown up with them in their lives."
