Rock out with a Ramones T-shirt
If you love your punk rock music, chances are you love the Ramones. Despite achieving almost no commercial success during their 22-year existence, the band are still seen as one of the most influential of all time, having heavily influenced many other bands both in the United States, and also here in the UK.
All of the members of the band made use of the Ramone surname, but perhaps the most famous member of all was Joey Ramone. As the lead vocalist and one of the founding members, Ramone became a countercultural icon and a legend of punk rock music. It is for this reason that we celebrate him with his very own Ramones T-shirt, featuring his name and the famous band logo.
Altogether, there were eight members of the band between its formation in 1974 and disbandment in 1996. Five of the members, Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy and Marky were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. The band were even awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys in 2011. Despite never being as successful as they could have been, it is still relatively common to see someone wearing a Ramones T-shirt at gigs all round the world.
One particularly popular story from the history of punk rock is that on July 4, 1976, the band played their first ever UK gig, in London. On the very same night, the Sex Pistols and the Clash were playing on the same bill up in Sheffield. Having heard about the Ramones’ performance, members of both the Sex Pistols and the Clash made their way to the Dingwall's club the very next night to see for themselves. Having three of the most influential bands of all time in the same place at the same time must have been quite a sight.
