Will 'Captain American 3' Be The Last Chapter?
There's a rumor circulating that Captain America 3 will be the final installment in the Captain America series. This doesn't necessarily mean that Marvel will close its doors and stop producing superhero movies, but Captain America 3 might be the final one in the series.
Captain America 3 was confirmed earlier this year. Like the precious installment, it will also be directed by the Russo brothers. Anthony and Joe Russo have directed a number of different Hollywood blockbusters, including Pieces, Welcome to Collinwood, You, Me and Dupree, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
So, how do we know that Captain America 3 will be the final chapter? Well, everything is speculation at this point, but Joe Russo stated that it will "bring closure" to Steve Rodger's (AKA Captain America) story. "It is a hard question to answer because it gets to the specific of where the narratives are going. I will say this: yes, for satisfying storytelling, you want a beginning, middle and end," said Joe Russo, when asked whether or not Captain America 3 will be the end for Steve Rodgers.
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier did phenomenal at the theaters, receiving an impressive 89% rating at Rotten Tomatoes and 8/10 rating at IMBD. With the second movie being such a hit, many fans are wondering why products would stop with the third installment. After all, if something works, it's usually best to follow the formula.
Anthony Russo shared some insight into his decision to stop Rodger's story with the upcoming third film. According to Russo, Marvel Universe movies are unique in the sense that one character's ending can lead to another character's beginning. If Captain America 3 is truly the last installment for Rodgers, perhaps we'll see a new character rise to take his place.
"The great thing about the Marvel universe, just like the publishing, it’s a very vast, inter-connected universe, where characters will have their rise and fall, so to speak, and hand off to other characters,” Anthony Russo said. “As the cinematic universe moves forward, you may start to see the cinematic universe adopt that same pattern, as the publishing has, where there’s closure with some characters and new beginnings with other characters. How those hand-offs are made is always part of the fun."
Captain America 3 is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016.
