Jason Momoa To Star As Aquaman
Jason Momoa, who's best known for his role as Khal Drogo in HBO's critically acclaimed fantasy series Game of Thrones, is about to join the ranks of the DC Universe superheroes. While there's been no official confirmation, several media outlets are reporting that the 35-year-old Hawaii-borne actor will take on the role of Aquaman.
But Momoa isn't donning the King of Atlantis suit in just one movie. There are reports that he'll star as Aquaman in two upcoming movies. Momoa's first gig as Aquaman will likely come in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie, which is scheduled to be released in 2015, while his second gig will be an entirely new standalone movie that's likely titled Aquaman.
Aquaman, Batman and Superman in the same movie? Let's hope director Zack Snyder doesn't drop the ball on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie. It's definitely gearing up to be a great flick, regardless of the criticism it initially received upon casing Ben Affleck as Batman. All of the early stills and set photos look promising, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther is icing on the cake.
HollywoodLife.com first broke the story about Momoa's new superhero role, saying the following:
"Jason Momoa has not yet been confirmed as Aquaman, but it’s awfully likely that he’s already nabbed the role in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The exciting casting news was confirmed by HitFix, as HollywoodLife.com reported in June, although Warner Bros. has yet to officially comment on Jason playing Aquaman."
Of course, these are just still just rumors, so there's a possibility that we may not see an Aquaman movie, or that another actor will take the role. Personally, though, I think Momoa is the perfect choice; he's a great actor with a muscular build, and he just looks like a natural fit for the King of Atlantis.
Some of Momoa's past and current work includes:
- Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding
- Tempted Kala
- Johnson Family Vacation Navarro
- Conan the Barbarian
- Bullet to the Head Keegan
- Road to Paloma
- North Shore
- Stargate Atlantis
- The Game
- The Red Road
- Game of Thrones
Aquaman first appeared in the More Fun Comics #73 (November 1941 edition). Due to the positive response by readers, creators Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger gave him his own comic book. In the 1950s and 60s, Aquaman became a founding member of the Justice League of America.
