Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson To Play a DC Superhero
Our favorite former professional wrestler turned actor, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, may soon join the ranks of the DC superheroes. In a recent interview with the Total Film, the 42-year old Hollywood star confirmed that he is in fact starring in an upcoming superhero movie. So, which superhero mask will The Rock wear?
Unfortunately, The Rock didn't tell us exactly what superhero he will play. During the interview, however, he did reveal some hints that may point towards a certain superhero in the DC Universe.
"DC and I have been talking for a couple of years now about trying to find whatever the right character is, and it’s tricky too, because there’s baggage, and its good baggage, that I have. I am a certain way, and my wiring is my wiring, my DNA is my DNA, and when I step on set and on screen, I’m aware of what I’m able to bring to a character. And so is DC too, so it’s not the easiest thing, do you know what I’m saying?" said Johnson.
"He has the power of Superman," said Johnson. "And it's not the Green Lantern by the way. Believe me, Jon Stewart, he is a character who I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so now we've gone in a slightly different direction. But this character has the power of Superman. He can throw down."
A superhero with the power of Superman -- who's not the Green Lantern? Who could this be? If you watch the complete interview (see video below), you'll notice he provides us with another hint regarding his upcoming superhero identify. Johnson finished the interview with, "Just say the word…That's all I'm going to say."
Ah, now we have a hint with some actual merit... Formerly known as Captain Marvel, Shazam is a superhero from the DC Comics Universe. A young boy, William Joseph "Billy" Batson, was chosen to fight evil by the wizard Shazam. Whenever Billy said the word "shazam," he would turn into a superhero with lightning abilities and more. Could The Rock's statement of "Just say the word" be a reference to an upcoming role as Shazam? Shazam certainly sounds like a good fit for The Rock, but everything is pure speculation until we have official confirmation.

Hercules, starring The Rock, is scheduled for release on July 25, 2014.
