'Gotham' Set To Premiere at Comic-Con

Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment will premiere the pilot episode for its highly anticipated show Gotham at Comic-Con San Diego on July 24-27. The two respective companies note that this will be the one and only early airing, so get your Comic-Con tickets in advance if you want to be one of the first people to see Gotham.

Gotham takes a cue from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., bringing the comic book story into a television show. The show's premise will center around the Batman universe, including characters such as a young Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, and James Gordon. Gotham will also tell the story of some of the most infamous villains in the Batman franchise, such as the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face, the Joker, Poison Ivy, and Scarecrow.

It's important to note this isn't your typical Batman flick, but rather a prequel encompassing themes and elements from the Batman franchise. The first season will reportedly focus on the events following the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) detective James Gordon is assigned to the high-profile case, during which he's introduced to the slain parents' son, Bruce. Bruce is now under the care of his family's butler, Alfred Pennyworth, whom struggles to fill the void left behind after the murder.

"Before there was Batman, there was Gotham. The origin story of some of DC Comics greatest Super-Villains and vigilantes, this one hour drama follows Detective Jim Gordon’s rise to power in a dangerously corrupt city that would spawn iconic characters such as The Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler and a young Bruce Wayne," wrote Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment in a press release.

Here's the current known cast of Gotham:

  • Ben McKenzie as James Gordon
  • Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth
  • Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot
  • Zabryna Guevara as Sarah Essen
  • Erin Richards as Barbara Kean
  • Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock
  • Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney
  • David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne
  • Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle
  • Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma
  • Victoria Cartagena as Renee Montoya
  • Andrew Stewart Jones as Crispus Allen

The first season of Gotham will consist of 16 episodes. We still don't know when exactly the show will air, but Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment say it will be sometime this fall in the 8:00-9:00 pm slot on Fox.
