New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer Reveals Villain (It's Shredder)
If you grew up watching the Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo in the early 1990s like I did, you're probably amped and ready to see the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles redux. Produced by Michael Bay and starring Megan Fox and Will Arnet, it's the first film released in the TMNT franchise since 1993 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3.
Being that this is a complete remake, however, our four reptilian ninjas will look a bit different than the films from the original trilogy. Rather than using actors donning suits, the new TNMT will rely heavily on computer-generated imagery (CGI). Many fans who long for the nostalgic 90's Ninja Turtles have criticized the film's producers for resorting to CGI effects. I was certainly skeptical of its effectiveness at first, but my doubts were quickly laid to rest after viewing the trailer.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer #2
Check out the recently released TMNT trailer above. It reveals for the first time a glimpse of the film's villain. Of course, it should come as no surprise that Shredder is the Ninja Turtles' advisory in the upcoming flick. But this Shredder looks bigger and badder than ever, complete with Turtle-slicing blades that appear to shoot out in a projectile-like fashion.
In the new trailer, Vernon Fenwick, whom is played by funnyman Will Arnett, asks reporter April O'Neil if the Turtles are from outerspace, at which point she responds with, "No, that’s stupid, they’re turtles." Why is this important? Well, a few years back the film's producer, Michael Bay, told a reporter during an interview that the new Ninja Turtles would not be mutants like the original ones were. Instead, they would be aliens from outerspace.
"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe one day that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable," said director Michael Bay during the 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront at the Avaolon in Hollywood, California.
Does this mean the Ninja Turtles in Michael Bay's upcoming redux will be mutants? We still don't know the answer to this question; however, Paramount released a synopsis stating that Shredder and his Foot Clan will take control of New York City, including the city's police department and its politicians. With the help of reporter April O'Neil (Megan Fox) and Vern (Will Arnett), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will come from their sewer dwelling to take back New York City.
TMNT is set to hit theaters worldwide on August 8.
