First Image of Ben Affleck as Batman Surfaces

Earlier this week, film director Zack Snyder released a sneak-peak photo of the upcoming new Batman vs Superman movie (note: this isn't the official title). It features Ben Affleck donning a revamped suit while standing in front of the Bat Mobile. Whether you're a fan of the Good Will Hunting star or not, this is a pretty awesome photo that combines the traditional elements of Batman with a modern twist.

There was uproar of controversy when Ben Affleck was announced as the face of Batman in Snyder's upcoming movie. DC Comics' fans immediately took to Facebook and Twitter to voice their displeasure with the casting choice. Searching for the “#BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck” reveals thousands of disgruntled fans, some of whom claim their “mothers” would prove to be a better Batman choice than Ben Affleck.

Another casting choice that ruffled some feathers was Jesse Eisenberg playing the role of villain Lex Luthor. The Social Network star isn't exactly menacing (no offense, Jessie), but maybe Snyder can use his magic to transform Eisenberg into a villainous character.

After seeing the image of Snyder's Batman vision first-hand, though, I have to say it looks promising. A single picture obviously isn't enough to make any definitive statements regarding the quality of the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie nor the casting choice of Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, but the photo looks promising nonetheless.

The new bat suit depicted in the photo looks more 'beefy' and muscular than the previous suits worn by Christian Bale in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. The short and pointy ears look a little cartoonish, but all in all I think it's a sweet design. Can Affleck knock out Bale as the leading Caped Crusader? We'll have to wait and see.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait quite a while to see the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie. It was originally planned for release on July 17, 2015; however, this was pushed back to May 6, 2016 for unknown reasons. Snyder has announced plans to follow up the Batman vs Superman movie with a DC-style Avengers, bringing some of the biggest DC heroes together to combat a villain. But with Batman vs Superman pushed back to 2016, who knows when this movie will be released.
